It’s a team effort.

As a primary care provider, you have many responsibilities. Thank you for all you do for the children of Kansas. My aim is to help ease your workload and assist your patients struggling with weight issues. Several years ago, I had an 18-year-old patient in my weight loss clinic who was very successful in her first month. I advised her that managing weight is a long-term effort and cautioned her against strict diets. When I mentioned a specific diet (which shall remain nameless), she had never heard about it. Ah-ha!

While I have enjoyed helping adults with weight management, my true passion is guiding young people to have a healthy relationship with food and their bodies. I want to prevent kids from going on and off diets, attaching too much importance to their body sizes, and help them build a strong approach to health in this era of widely available opinions and platforms.

By focusing on improving habits and building self-esteem, many times bodies will change for the healthier. But, there are roadblocks that sometimes only medication can clear. I want to help your patient and their family figure out their path.

Maverick Process

  1. Initial consultation month of 3 in-person interactions, including large amount of guidance to the parents and caregivers.

  2. Monthly in-person visits with added support throughout the month.

  3. Resources like newsletter, recipes, news, tips, challenges, and more.

  4. Communication with you, as the patient’s primary provider, regarding progress, recommendations and troubleshooting difficult areas.

The AAP guidelines recommend 26 hours of patient interaction and education at the first sign of weight issues. While a wonderful recommendation, it is also sometimes impractical in a busy medical practice. At Maverick, I am able to dedicate time and effort into trying to follow those guidelines.
